An Enrolled Agent (EA) is the highest credential in the tax industry. An EA is considered a tax specialist, which sets them apart from attorneys or CPAs who do not always specialize in taxes. The practice of enrolled agents before the IRS is not limited and they may represent taxpayers before the IRS, performing the same tasks as an Attorney or CPA.
EAs must complete a 4-part exam that is just as intense as the CPA exam. The main difference is that all four parts of the EA exam are on tax, whereas the CPA exam has one part on tax and the others on three different topics.
